FROM ILIGANON SA MANILA PRESIDENT: Agnes Rafanan Brazell
Agnes Rafanan Brazell
Sorry for not posting update as often as I should. I don’t have internet connection in the house and. I have to go to internet cafe to check emails and sometimes too tired to do so at the end of the day.
Day 1…Tues, Dec 20,2011
Departure for Iligan. Sa eroplano pa lang gahilak na ko reading the headlines in newspapers. The drive from Hinaplanon, Tambo and Bayug was just heartbreaking. I was too stunned to take pictures.
Visited MSU-IIT Gym in the afternoon. The first time I visited an evacuation site and it was just too much. Nakahilak na sad ko when Darwin pointed to me a teenager who just sulked in one corner…expressionless, with blank stare, traumatized, withdrawn from the world. Siya ra ang nabilin sa iyang pamilya. Tanan namatay sa Sendong. His name is Richard.
Day 2…Wed, Dec 21, 2011
Delivered relief goods to MSU-IIT gym. I brought bathsoaps, toothbrushes, toothpastes good for 1,200 families… mao ning mga stuff for hygiene ang makalimtan ug donate. I arrived the same time as Migz Zubiri and abs-cbn stars were akso there…Sam Milby, Jake Cuenca, Maricar Reyes, etc… The celebrities distributed goods from Sagip-Kapamilya. The gym became chaotic for a while…rules were broken…oh well, at least they brought smiles to the evacuees.
I approached and talked to Richard who was in exactly in the same spot as yesterday. Couldn’t help but cry again.. Told him to pray hard…and that there is always hope. Gave him my rosary.
Day 3…Thurs, Dec 22, 2011
Went to Ubaldo Laya evacuation center. Joined the Iligan and Pagadian JCI Senators distribute goods courtesy of JCI Senate Pres and Gov Tony Cerilles of Pagadian City.Cerilles sent truckloads of relief goods…rice, water, canned goods, etc,. Sent 16 doctors and nurses for medical mission and donated 100 coffins. After we finished, another set of relief goods…truckloads again…arrived with John Lloyd Cruz (they say). Then, busloads of relief goods from Rural transit arrived. We’ve done our part so we left and head off to Luinab evacuation site. Sorry na lang si John Lloyd wala nakakita sa amo…
We arrived Luinab swarmed with policemen…Tanan na ata police sa Iligan tua didto. Then we were informed that PNP Chief Bartolome is arrivng anytime…so that explains why. I was there to assist group of donors from Union Galvasteel who flew all the way from Manila to personally hand in their donation. Thanks guys! Thanks Nono….
The number of evacuees in Luinab is swelling by the day. Ma’am Nelda, the principal is already panicking. I introduced her to Chief Bartolome to air her concern and hoping it gets to the President/ Well, it should pass thru the LGU first. And that should be the urgent concern ow…RELOCATION.
Day 4…Fri, Dec 23, 2011
Spent whole day in Gaisano buying kaldero, balde, tabo, bareta, towels, etc…. We decided to just deliver our goods directly to the depressed areas like Bayug. Though we’ve been warned that we might be mobbed. Those in evacuation centers are well-taken cared of. There are victims who couldn’t get their share because they don’t leave their houses… bisag guba na…dili mabiyaan ang mga gamay nga kabtangan. We will distribute these goods tomorrow with Lisa Ronquillo and her cousins. Our guide is Alah Cabili-Albao… One of my close friends and is from Bayug…one of those who evacuated with her family in the middle of the night struggling through raging waters. We will also be giving little cash per family. I think the best gift now is cash para naa sad tawon silay panggasto. Sila man nakabalo kung unsa ilang kulang ug palitonon. Morag pinaskohan na sad…
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from everywhere…as far as New Zealand… And i really appreciate the help extended through Iliganons sa Manila, Inc. Thank you for your trust. I intentionally left my camera in Manila because i never wanted phot-op on this…but then friends advised me to get pictures for documentation. Well, it makes sense. We want our donors to see where their money went.
Tomorrow, we shall distribute the relief goods and cash gift to some families in Bayug. Hope to visit IIT gym after and talk to Richard again…
