President Arroyo visits Misamis Oriental September 9

Cagayan de Oro City (8 September) — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to visit Lugait, Misamis Oriental on September 9, 2009 to turn over 130 motorized pump boats to fisher folks under the Integrated Services for Livelihood Assistance (ISLA).
Worth Php10.3 million, the pump boats will be received by four (4) fisher folk federations with some 2,300 beneficiaries including those of the nearby towns of Manticao and Initao, as well as that of Iligan City in Lanao del Norte.
During the occasion, the President will also award some Php218,915 worth of alternative livelihood projects for the fisher folks of Manticao and a certificate comprising the fishing gears and common service facility for the fisher folks of Iligan.
A component of the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP), ISLA is implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to help the fisher folks go into viable and sustainable businesses, thus, improving their income to a level at par with that of the minimum wage earners.
The ISLA project also aims to assist the existing livelihood undertakings of marginalized fisher folks by setting up of a common marketing facilities, acquisition of fishing boats, gears, equipment and other fishing paraphernalia, establishment of alternative livelihood projects, strengthening of fisher folks’ organization and trainings on entrepreneurship development and business management of their members.
From Lugait, the President will inaugurate the Provincial Hospital (formerly called Medicare Hospital) in Manticao and take a look at the “Lasang” in Initao. (PIA 10)
