PNP Iligan bares ‘Oplan Semana Santa’

Iligan City (1 April) — The Philippine National Police-Iligan City Police Office (PNP-ICPO), in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, has formulated Oplan Semana Santa, an effective security system to adequately prevent any acts of lawlessness during the observance of the Holy Week.

P/SSupt Oscar Aguda, officer-in-charge, ICPO-PNP, said they need to intensify police visibility imperative to prevent the occurrence of crimes, and to address traffic congestion, too.

Criminal elements particularly terrorist and Lawless Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Groups (LMGs) might take advantage of the situation to conduct their nefarious activities against civilian populace and vital government or private installations.

In the OPLAN Semana Santa, we coordinated with religious ministers/priests and churches in the police’ respective Area of Responsibility (AOR) for the slated activities, said P/SSupt Aguda.

Aguda added, we will be deploying uniformed personnel for visibility in the vicinity of churches, other ritual places, seaports and bus terminals of police AORs, and continue to secure vital installations, as well.

We opted to deploy plainclothes personnel to intensify intelligence operation, monitoring the plans and activities of criminal elements and other threat groups. Also, we coordinated with 104th Brigade, Philippine Army, and the 10th PRMG (Police Regional Mobile Group) in case there is a need for augmentation.

Force multipliers like the radio groups and other civic organizations have been mobilized to support the police elements in providing assistance to the general public ensuring the city’s peace and order.

Likewise, barangay chairmen were advised to utilize their CVOs (Civilian Volunteer Organizations) and Barangay Tanods in providing security in their respective AORs.

The Explosives Ordnance Device (EOD), using the sniffing dogs of the K-9 Unit will conduct paneling in all major churches in the city and other places of convergence, sanitizing its places of engagement one hour prior to the activity in observance of the Holy Week.

The Traffic Management Enforcement Auxiliary Group (TMEAG) and other traffic auxiliaries shall be utilized to assist in the maintenance of the normal flow of traffic and establishment of motorist assistance along national highways during the week’s celebration.

The regular established checkpoints are still at its strategic places to preempt any hostile attacks by terrorists, LMGs, and other threat groups, Aguda commented. (PIA-Lanao del Norte)
