Cagayan de Oro City (12 May) — The internally displaced persons of the armed conflict that occurred last 2003 in Munai town, Lanao del Norte are now receiving P192 daily for 10 days in exchange for work rendered in the construction of core shelter units in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte.
In consonance to the restoration and rehabilitation assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the “Cash for Work” Project provided the disaster victims with the opportunity to participate in community development projects and receive compensation in the form of cash equivalent to 75 percent of the minimum wage set by the Regional Tripartite Wage Council.
“The project helps sustain the daily needs of the victims,” Atty. Araceli F. Solamillo, DSWD Regional Director said.
Through the participation of the victims, 27 shelter units have already been completed and turned over to the local government unit of Bacolod. At present, 53 more are now being constructed as well in barangays Rupagan, Benoni, and Poblacion.
Each shelter unit costs P45,000 with P10,000 as the counterpart of the local government unit of Bacolod, Lanao del Norte.
The DSWD takes action in restoring basic services to enable the victims to return to their pre-disaster condition.
“Rehabilitation activities such as the Cash for Work Project are created to provide for rapid restoration of morale of the affected individuals and families,” Atty. Solamillo said. (DSWD-X)
