Lanao del Norte (25 August) — The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) spearheaded another livestock dispersal program, the “Carabull for Training.”

The carabulls to be trained were male offspring of carabaos of the Dimaporo Farmers Income Enhancement Program (DFIEP), under the special joint project of the Province of Lanao del Norte and its 2nd Congressional District.

The identified recipients signified their interest on the program by attending the seminar-training on Effective Management of Carabulls on July 31, 2009 at the Macapagal Training center, Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The resource speakers of the training were staff from PVO which imparted knowledge particularly on breeding, forage and pasture, feeding and nutrition and animal health management.

There were 45 participants present during the training coming from the municipalities of Kapatagan, Lala, Kolambugan, Bacolod, Kauswagan and Linamon.

According to Dr. Usodan D. Samporna, Provincial Veterinarian, “the natural docility and tameness of the carabao contribute to its early learning ability. Training should start as early as 2 to 3 years old. Animals at this age can be trained to become submissive and obedient. Carabaos are just not used for breeding but also for draft purposes.”

Following the conduct of training is the actual release of the animals which is tentatively scheduled on the 3rd week of September 2009.
