Iligan’s Tripartite Council to conduct Workers’ Forum

Iligan City (18 May) — In order to keep abreast of the current economic situation, the Iligan City-Lanao del Norte Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) will hold a Workers’ Forum on 26 May 2009, at the Ritza’s Garden, St. Mary, Tibanga, Iligan City.
The main speaker will be coming from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in Region 10, to talk about the economic situation of the region with focus on Iligan City in the context of the present global recession.
Provincial Director Ruel B. Paclipan, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Iligan City-Lanao del Norte, who is the committee chairman, TIPC-representing Government Sector, said they have come up with this forum to be able for the speaker to gear on the status of globalcrisis-its impact in the Philippine Economy, the industry performance (Region 10 and Iligan City), and the outlook for the rest of 2009 and 2010.
Other resource persons from the DTI, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Science and technology (DOST) and Technical Education and Skills Authority (TESDA), will present and deliberate on government interventions such as livelihood and employment opportunities.
Likewise, the local government units, this city: the City Agriculture Office, (CAG), Cooperative Development and Livelihood Office (CDLO), and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) will have their inputs, too.
Remegio Caban’og, head, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Iligan City-Lanao del Norte District Office, urges key officers of different organizations to join this whole day activity.
The Forum is TIPC’s continued undertaking apart from the Labor Day Celebration.
The Tripartite Council initiated this year’s Labor Day Celebration with a mass at the St. Michael’s Cathedral, a labor march and a short program at the city public plaza.
