Iligan City (13 March) — Internal Revenue Deputy Commissioner Lilia C. Guillermo witnessed the launching of the Integrated Tax System (ITS) in Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 101, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Iligan City, on March 12.
“This is the last phase of our Bureau’s Nationwide Rollout of Computerized System (NRCS) Program out of the remaining 75 non-computerized RDOs from 2007 to 2008, totaling to 115 computerized districts nationwide,” said Commissioner Guillermo.
She said the project is aimed at improving tax collection, providing better service to taxpayers, and deter tax evasion, adding that the NRCS aims to complete the computerization of the operations of the BIR all over the country.
The Commissioner explained that the computerization program automates the registration, collection, returns processing, and taxpayer accounting processes in the Bureau.
“In this way, it enables the BIR to better respond to taxpayer requests and reduce transaction time for them. Finally, by enabling the Bureau to establish a more comprehensive data bank and compare data across in different data clusters, it will make identifying tax evaders easier,” Guillermo said.
While it is true that said Program would make the operations of the RDO more efficient and effective, Revenue District Officer Casan P. Azis of Iligan said that the Bureau has personnel trained in the different tasks in operating the automated systems under the program, and NRCS provided equipment like desktop computers, printers, filing cabinets and computer tables and chairs, along with the required electrical upgrades and Local Area Network (LAN) cabling.
The procurement of the equipment and training of BIR personnel were supported by the Millennium Challenge Account-Philippines Threshold Program Technical Assistance Project (MCA-PTP-TAP).
Phyllis Cox, chief of Party, MCA-PTP-TAP, said that the project assists the Philippine government to improve revenue administration and fight corruption.
“It is supported by a US$ 20.6 million grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a US government corporation that supports development programs and projects all over the world. The grant is administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID),” Phyllis Cox disclosed.
Nonetheless, RDO Azis took the opportunity of thanking the participants of their response to RDO’s invitation for this purpose. (PIA Lanao del Norte)
