DOST invites PSHS scholarship applicants

Cagayan de Oro City (7 August) — Application for the Philippine Science High School scholarship is now going on.
This is according to Director Angelito Alolod of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10.
Director Alolod said that DOST gives scholarship slots to graduating elementary pupils who wish to study at any campus of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS).
Qualified to apply are those: a) who belong to the upper 10 percent of the graduating class; b) are Filipino citizens with no pending application as immigrants to any foreign country; c) not be more than 15 years old by June 2009; d) in good health and are fit to undergo a rigorous academic program; e) of good moral character; and, f) and have not taken the PSHS national competitive examination.
Applicants are to submit the following requirements: a) fully accomplished application form (in duplicate copies) with four identical; b) recent 1×1 ID pictures; and, c) P100 non-refundable processing fee.
The PSHS, an academic institution under DOST, is the premiere science high school in the country which trains deserving students to become future scientists and technologists.
The academic curriculum is designed to prepare these scholars for careers in science and technology.
At present, the PSHS System has eight campuses all over the country.
The main campus is in Diliman, Quezon City, while the others are: Ilocos Campus in San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur; Cagayan Valley Campus in Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya; Bicol Region Campus in Goa, Camarines Sur; Eastern Visayas Campus in Palo, Leyte; Central Visayas Campus in Talaytay, Argao, Cebu; Western Visayas Campus in Jaro District, Iloilo City; Central Mindanao Campus in Baloi, Lanao del Norte; and the Southern Mindanao Campus in Tugbok District, Davao City.
Admission to PSHS is through a two-step national competitive examination.
The first screening, known as the scholastic aptitude test, is scheduled on November 7, 2009. It consists of tests in verbal, abstract reasoning and mathematics.
Those who pass the first screening are qualified to take the second screening scheduled sometime in December 2007, the subject-focus of which is on science and mathematics.
The PSHS scholarship entrance examination form is not for sale, and no reservation fee is required. It can be downloaded from the PSHS website: www.pshs.edu.ph
Application forms are to be filed at any of the PSHS Campuses, the DOST Regional Offices or at the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Centers.
Deadline for submission of application form is on August 31, 2009.
