DOST hosts Mindanao cluster tech confab

Cagayan de Oro City (11 September) — THE Mindanao Cluster Science and Technology Fair of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will be opened on September 14 and will run until September 18.

It will be held at Dottie”s Place, Butuan City.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Congressman Jose Aquino II and DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro will grace the opening program of the fair.

The five-day event will feature a series of technology forum catered to a specific audience. It will also showcase various technology exhibits by the different research councils and institutes under DOST.

On September 14, the DOST-LGU Convergence forum will focus on Disaster Management and Mitigation; Climate Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.

A Climate Change Adaptation project entitled, “Resilient Farming Communities through Innovative Risk Transfer Mechanisms” will also be presented. Expected audience for the forum are officials and representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs).

September 15 will be devoted for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Topics for the Business Forum include Food Contamination and its Prevention; Caraga Food Safety Team; and CPT and Energy Audit for Business.

The third day will be the DOST-Academe Innovation Day.

Topics will touch on Policy Environment for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); Intellectual Property Management and the Innovation Process; Establishing and Operating a Technology Transfer Office; The Filipinovation; and Patent Search and Basic Patent Drafting.

September 17 sees the discussion on Gender-Friendly Food Technologies like Meal Management and Food Handling; and Complementary Foods for Babies. A technology demonstration and presentation of these products will wrap up the day”s forum.

The closing and awarding program on September 18 will wind up the whole activity.

The Mindanao Technology Fair is being spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in cooperation with its regional offices, institutes and councils.

Similar events are also to be conducted in Luzon and Visayas Clusters.

This year”s technology fair follows the theme, “Responding to Global Challenges through Science and Technology.” (DOST)
