54 MILF members surrender to Army

Salvador, Lanao del Norte (18 May) — With the incessant combat operations conducted by the Philippine Army in Lanao Del Norte, 54 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) under 1st Battalion, 302nd Base Command surrendered to 32nd Infantry (DAREDEVIL) Battalion, 1ID, Philippine Army (PA) under the leadership of LTC Jones F. Agustin INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, last May 3 at the Battalion Headquarters of 32nd Infantry Battalion, Barangay Inasagan, Salvador town, Lanao del Norte.

LTC Agustin, identified the leaders of the surrenderees as Kayamura Mangilala alias Kalayaan, Commander of 1st Battalion, 302nd Base Command, BIAF, MILF and his sub – unit commander Minalang Mapandi alias Batman.

A total of thirty 39 high powered firearms were surrendered by the group to including seven M1 Garand Rifle, two M16 rifles, one M203, one Caliber.30 BAR, one M2 Carbine Rifle and one M14 Rifle.

In an interview with Mangilala during their surrender, he said they decided to return to the folds of the law realizing that their efforts and sacrifices for their organization are causeless and based on false promises.

Further, he claimed that their continuous running and hiding from the pursuing government troops in the area, greatly affects the living condition of their families especially their children.

LTC Agustin on his part, expressed his appreciation to the surrenderees for their decision to finally turn their back on the MILF ideology and return to the mainstream of the society.

Further, he urged them to encourage their comrades who are still lurking in the mountains to submit themselves to the government, as the unit implements the open door policy of the government to peaceful negotiation, to resolve conflicts in Lanao Del Norte. (32ND IB, 1ID, PA)
