Open Letter To Mayor Lawrence Cruz from one of our readers.
Dear Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz,
Greeting of Peace and Prosperity.
This concerned my son Sidney Voltaire M. Bernal, 12 yrs old, an ICECS graduate with distinctions, applied for mayor’s scholarship just this afternoon but was denied due the reason that my income is more that P 20,000 which according to the evaluator is big enough thus making my son disqualified for the scholarship applications.
The bad thing was that my son, who was really interested to apply for the said scholarship, had gone through the process of securing the needed documents, had used his time, money and effort, even going back to city hall for several times just to apply for the said scholarship (actually it was his decision to apply and as a parents it is only our role to support his plan), but when he was interviewed he was denied for the reasons mentioned above. We petty him because he cried at home on the reasons that he was made to secure the needed requirements and at the end he was denied without considering the efforts he gave. He told us that the requirements( even no posting outside the office) actually did not mentioned that the family income (as evidence by Income Tax Return) has limit in order to qualify. If this information was known to him/us in advance surely he/we will not waste time and money to secure thus many requirements. Of course, as parents we are also hurt by the negligence of the said in-charge/office incharge for the interview/screening of applicants. Although the amount is not too big(per info 1500 per year be given for the scholar) but being a Mayor’s Scholar is a big thing to him coz this will be put in his record and he can use this as an advantage whenever he will apply for a job in the future.
It is hope that the procedures in the screening of the applicants be corrected so that no more children will cry like what had happened to my child. Also, it is hope that in evaluating the family income the numbers of family members should also be considered. Thank you and more power.

I have been websurfing Iligan City for over two years and visited there for the first time in April 2008 and a follow up visit about one month ago.
I have had a video slide show on Youtube for a few months of pics and a story line of my first visit which has now accumilated over 1000 hits. It was my first attempt at putting something like this together so there are a couple of errors in it but nothing major and after spending many hours making it I did not feel like making any changes.

I found your website through Skyscraper City , Iligan thread which I have been viewing this site for a couple of years and occasionally post there.
I live in New York USA which is almost exactly half way around the world from Iligan.
