Bacolod Kalawi hosts Lanao Sur Mayor’s meet

Bacolod Kalawi (16 June) — To have united reforms in working for the progress of Lanao del Sur, the League of Municipal Mayors–Lanao del Sur chapter recently conducted a mayor’s summit in the town of Bacolod Kalawi in Lanao del Sur.
Participated by 22 municipal mayors, the meet aimed to come-up with real solutions to the different problems faced by each municipality.
According to the host mayor, Diarangan Jaffar Dipatuan, the meeting was conducted to discuss the recent peace and order situation in each municipality especially family feuds or ‘ridos.’
Further, Butig town mayor Dimnatang Pansar, said the objectives of the summit also include working for resolutions to achieve lasting peace and prosperity in the province.
“Through the concerted efforts of the different mayors of Lanao del Sur under the leadership of Governor Mamintal ‘Bombit’ Adiong Jr., we can come-up with solutions in settling family feuds,” Mayor Pansar said.
“We also make it a point to hold our monthly meeting in the different municipalities so that the people of Lanao del Sur will be aware of what their leaders are doing for their welfare,” Pansar added.
Preparations for the coming 50th founding anniversary of Lanao del Sur and the participation of the different municipalities in the various activities were also tackled during the summit. (PIA-Marawi City)

Lanao Sur lines up activities for golden anniversary fete
Marawi City (16 June) — It is all systems go as the provincial government of Lanao del Sur will celebrate another milestone – the 50th founding anniversary of Lanao del Sur.
This year’s theme “50 Years of Service to the People of Lanao del Sur” will feature the cooperation of different sectors in Lanao del Sur and will be spearheaded by the provincial government in providing genuine services to its constituents.
The celebration will be showcased through a series of activities that is expected to revive the unique and well-preserved Maranao culture.
The golden celebration will kick-off on June 26 and ends on July 4.
Officials and employees from the provincial government and national line agencies, business and private sectors, religious, civic, traditional leaders, academe, barangay and youth groups are expected to participate.
The Department of Education will spearhead the DepEd Day on June 27 which will be highlighted by a cultural parade and program.
Marked as the Barangay and Councilors League Day, a Basketball Friendship Game is set on June 28.
On June 29, non-government and people’s organizations will conduct the Lanao Sur People’s Congress.
The youth sector will participate through the Karate, Badminton, Extemporaneous Speech and Poster Making contests scheduled on June 30, the Youth Day.
Health Day is set on July 1 which will be highlighted by a medical and optical mission.
The Provincial Advisory Council, Council of Elders and Sultanate Day is on July 2.
Another highlight of the golden celebration is the Ulama League Day on July 2 to 3 where the Ulama League of the Philippines will conduct a summit on moral revival.
A tree planting activity will highlight the Environment Day on July 4 while the Governor’s Night and awarding of prizes will wrap up the golden celebration.
Meanwhile, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal ‘Bombit’ Adiong Jr. is inviting everyone to come and witness the celebration.
“I am inviting our kababayans from the different parts of the country to come and discover the beauty of Lanao del Sur and the uniqueness of the Maranao culture as we celebrate our golden anniversary,” he said. (PIA-Marawi City)

IFEX showcases best products of Northern Mindanao

Camiguin Province (4 June) — Exciting food products from Northern Mindanao were showcased at the recently concluded International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines 2009, the country’s foremost destination for unique food ideas held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia in Manila on May 15-17, 2009.
At least 25 homegrown and premium food companies from Northern Mindanao, including the food treasures of Camiguin Province, namely Vjandep pastel, Maestrado tablea and Soling’s piniato, were part of the IFEX Partner Region Program (PRP) in a bid to unravel the gastronomic treasures of Mindanao at the IFEX PRP Pavilion.
The IFEX PRP Pavilion was formally opened by no less than Regional Development Council 10 (RDC-X) Chairman and Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus “JJ” M. Romualdo as the guest of honor, assisted by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sr. Undersecretary Thomas Aquino, the Growth of Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Chief of Party Mr. Charles Feibel, DTI-10 Regional Director Alicia V. Euseña and witnessed by Camiguin Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo, Mambajao Mayor Ma. Luisa D. Romualdo, DTI-10 officials and staff, DTI CITEM officials along with domestic and foreign buyers.
The three-day event was complemented with daily activities, which included the food demo, diverse product promotion, food tasting and selling, market matching sessions with both domestic and foreign buyers and the NM Investment and Marketing Forum which Gov. Romualdo was the guest speaker.
This year’s IFEX Philippines marks its fifth edition with a remarkable selection of food products from the quality producers and suppliers from here and abroad, an annual trade show organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry.
IFEX Phils. is one of the premier sourcing hubs for quality, diverse and delectable Philippines and Asian food – the venue choice for hundreds of local and foreign food buyers of key establishments as well as of chefs, gourmets, entrepreneurs and foodies.
Northern Mindanao is this year’s destination of the IFEX Partner Region Program (PRP), a project of the CITEM that is geared towards helping the regions of the country to innovate, promote and package quality food products from the Philippines and also a venue for the different regions to share exciting gourmet options that appeals to the senses.
