by Apipa P. Bagumbaran
Marawi City (17 April) — Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan expressed his appreciation towards the cooperation, support, and efforts of Maranao constituents that have brought positive changes to the development in the region.
In his message, delivered by Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Secretary Nadjemah Mokiin Salic-Malna, Governor Ampatuan congratulated the city government of Marawi and its constituents for the making the affair a venue in celebrating the quest for cultural preservation to attain peace and unity.
Ampatuan also reaffirmed his commitment to do all the necessary efforts to address the challenges that confronts the region.
“As we all know, we are still confronted with challenges of peace, governance and socio-economic concerns. And as your governor and brother, I am doing all the efforts to address these concerns,” Ampatuan said.
The Governor also said that the regional government has been very active in assisting the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) in the review and assessment of the ongoing peace negotiations between the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The message also emphasized that one of the projects of the regional government is to create a positive environment by sustaining the distinct Maranao culture that will promote Marawi as the city by the lake and the center of Islamic education, culture and arts.
“This city has numerous historical, socio-cultural, and education landmarks which could make it a tourist and educational center of the region,” Ampatuan said.
The Governor assured the public that he will continue to make some efforts in bringing the government closer to the people and the people closer to the government by intensifying the linkages with the provincial and city governments.
“Together, let us prove to the whole country, neighboring countries, and most importantly our constituents that indeed, we can make a difference in the ARMM”, Ampatuan stressed. (PIA-Marawi City)

DSWD sets fees for social welfare NGOs
by Delia Maravillosa
Cagayan de Oro City (17 April) — Non-government offices operating on social welfare and development will now be paying for registration, licensing or accreditation to the Department of Welfare and development (DSWD) based on the new Administrative Order No. 17 series of 2008.
The registration fee for auxiliary agencies is P1,000, registration and licensure fee for social welfare agencies is P2,500, and accreditation fee for social welfare and development programs and services is P2,000.
Ms. Charito Esteban of the Standards Bureau of DSWD said that the increase is necessary to regulate and enforce social welfare and development standards to both public and private organizations engaged in social welfare and development activities through registration, licensing, and accreditation.
“The Administrative Order was issued because there is a need to protect the beneficiaries against malpractice, abuse, and exploitation by social welfare and development agencies (SWDAs) and to maintain a comprehensive set of guidelines to serve as reference in their registration, licensing and accreditation application with DSWD,” Esteban said.
The DSWD is also warning all private SWDAs operating without a registration and/or license to operate from the DSWD shall be give a period of one year to apply for registration and license to operate with the Department from the date of the effectivity of the guideline. The Department underscores that those who cannot comply to be registered or licensed with DSWD shall be reported to the Security and Exchange Commission or other regulatory government agencies that provide juridical personality to the SWDA for appropriate action.
To track the status of those previously registered or licensed SWDAs, the DSWD shall also notify within 60 working days from the implementation of the guideline, while all private SWDAs registered and licensed by DSWD shall apply for a new registration and license to operate and to submit the required documents within six month upon receipt of the DSWD notice. The DSWD emphasizes that those who fail to comply shall be delisted from the registry and their certificates of registration and license to operate shall be revoked after due notice. (DSWD-10)
