Iligan City (27 March) — Some 130 beneficiaries are provided short-term wage employment in Kolambugan town, province of Lanao del Norte under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Project.
Kolambugan Mayor Bertrand Lumaque said one half of those who availed the project are displaced workers from the FINDLAY Miller Timber Company which closed its operation years back.
We utilized them in various community projects like dredging of canals, maintenance of farm to market roads that were affected of the flash floods, Mayor Lumaque said.
“We hope to have this program extended because we find it an immediate source of income for the beneficiaries and their families. We are willing to shoulder their SSS benefits as our counterpart to the government’s funding for this purpose,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Iligan District Office allotted an amount of P313,500 for the wages of the TUPAD beneficiaries.
DOLE said this is the government’s generation of employment and livelihood, giving opportunities to disadvantaged workers who were affected thwarting the problems brought by the global crisis.
The project was implemented last March 9 and shall end first week of April. (PIA-Lanao del Norte)
